quick note books

These are some notebooks I made with printer paper, a manila folder, and some decorative tape.

Instructions after the jump!

You will need:

  • A paper cutter (or a pair of scissors and steady hands)
  • A manila folder or card stock that you will use as a cover
  • Paper of your choice to act as notebook paper (I usually like graph paper, but I didn't have any on hand)
  • A sewing machine
  • Decorative tape
Let's get started!
  1. First, cut your notebook paper to whatever size you like.  Make sure that the width of the paper is twice the width you want your notebook to be.  For example my notebook has pages that are 4.5 inches wide and 5.5 inches tall so the paper I cut was 9.0 inches by 5.5 inches in size.
  2. Take your paper and fold it in half to get a small booklet of your desired size and set aside for now.
  3. Take your manila folder or cardstock and cut it to the dimensions of the size of the paper you cut for your notebook BUT with half of an inch extra on both the height and the width.  For example, I cut sheets 9.0"x 5.5" for my notebook pages.  For my cover, I cut a 9.5"x 6.0" piece from a manila folder.
  4. Take your cover and fold it in half
  5. Unfold both the pages and the cover and place the pages within the cover so that the creases align.
  6. Center the creases and then use a sewing machine to sew the pages to the cover.
  7. After sewing the pages together, cover the spine with decorative tape!
