microwaveable hand warmer!

This is a quick and easy sewing project!  I'm from Southern California so I get cold easily.  My fingers are always cold during the winter so I decided to make myself a little hand warmer.

Instructions after the jump!

What you'll need:
  • Two pieces of fabric (5"x5").  Really it can be pretty much any size, but this is the size I decided to use.
  • Enough uncooked rice to fill up the warmer at least 2/3 full.
  • A sewing machine
  • Thread and a needle
  • Herbs for a scent such as lavender (optional)
Let's get started!
  1. Place the two squares of fabric on top of each other making sure the two printed sides are facing each other.  Sew the two pieces of fabric together with 1/4 inch allowance.  Make sure to leave an opening about 1.5" wide on one side.
  2. Invert the two pieces so you get a little pouch.
  3. Fill the pouch with rice at least 2/3 of the way full.
  4. Add herbs if you want!
  5. Sew up the remaining hole tightly as to make sure not to allow any rice to fall out during use.
  6. Microwave for up to 20 seconds and warm up your hands!
